June 17, 2026 -- The Federal Trade Commission and Better Business Bureau are warning internet users of a new wave of fraud involving email invitations (evites).

The emails do not specify information about the event and ask the recipient to provide passwords, access codes or downloads.

Scammers use the messages to collect email login information they can use to take over accounts, access sensitive messages and send fraudulent invitations to contacts.

If you receive an evite that requires providing such information, DO NOT click on links or open attachments.

If you do, immediately change your email password, or any other account that used that password, and run a security scan on your device.

According to a warning from the Better Business Bureau, the new wave of "You're Invited" texts and emails appear to come from well-known services like Evite, Paperless Post or Punchbowl.

Evite scams are especially popular during the early summer, during the graduation and wedding season.
