SMPD Press Release Triggers National Media Search

By Jorge Casuso

September 22, 2026 -- The press release the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) issued at 10:20 a.m. Monday was brief, and it triggered a national media race to find the name and address of the local rehab facility where Presley Gerber had died.

"On September 20, 2026, at approximately 9:35 a.m., Santa Monica Police Department officers responded to a report of a possible overdose in the 1000 block of Berkeley Street," read the press release posted on the City's homepage.

"Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who was deceased. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has identified the individual as Presley Gerber, 27," who news outlets had reported Sunday was the 27-year-old son of model and actress Cindy Crawford and her husband, businessman Rande Gerber.

"SMPD detectives are investigating the death as a suspected overdose. At this time, there is no indication of foul play," the release said, noting that the official cause and manner of death would be determined by the County coroner.

Media outlets immediately issued initial reports and in less than 2 hours, People magazine had obtained recordings of a call "dispatched to Santa Monica police" at 9:35 a.m. Saturday with another dispatch reporting a cardiac arrest.

"A deputy medical examiner performed an examination today and the cause and manner of death have been deferred, which means additional testing and/or studies were requested in order to make a determination," People reported.

According to the Medical Examiner, “Death was pronounced at 09:45 hours on September 20, 2026, by responding paramedics" from the Santa Monica Fire Department.

By 2:58 p.m., Page Six, the celebrity gossip column of the New York Post, had identified the facility where Gerber's body was found and posted a story with the headline "Inside the $7.7 million rehab facility where Presley Gerber died."

"The Resolutions Living facility," Page Six wrote, "focuses on providing addiction and mental health support, including a staff that can cater to each resident’s specific needs at the three-story property, according to its website."

The article linked to the Resolutions Living website, which states, "Our co-ed luxury recovery residence is as safe as it is beautiful. From chef-prepared meals, to numerous balconies and outdoor seating areas, our residents will experience a peace and serenity unlike anything they have known before.

"Our recovery residence will help residents develop the life of their dreams, all while continuing their recovery work and individual growth."

The website features pictures of the manicured grounds and white interior accented with graceful iron railings. The pattern also graces the solid exterior gate (pictured on Google maps) with an intercom box and a plaque that reads, " Private Property. No Trespassing, Soliciting."

Lush landscaping covers any view of the grounds, but a California Post photographer managed to snap photos of the building and grounds.

According to KTLA, "Gerber had been open about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse, documenting his journey on Instagram. He also launched a 'Mental Health Mondays' series on the platform to raise awareness and share wellness tips.

"Across multiple episodes, he discussed his experiences with substances including ketamine and kratom, as well as his time in rehabilitation facilities," KTLA reported.

"In a March Instagram video posted from Mexico, Gerber said he planned to take ibogaine, a potent psychedelic being studied as a treatment for opioid addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions."

Gerber is survived by his parents, Rande and Cindy, and his sister, Kaia Gerber.
