July 28, 2017 -- The City of Santa Monica's Cultural Affairs Division has announced the lineup for its 12th Annual Jazz on the Lawn summer concert series held every Sunday in August.

The concerts from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gandara Park (formerly Stewart Street Park) will feature Latin, New Orleans and French jazz and include free dance lessons and intermission performances on select dates, organizers said.

The series, which also offers food to purchase from popular food trucks, kicks off August 6 with a performance by the Big Butter Jazz Band, which features "upbeat, catchy, traditional New Orleans jazz that will get feet shuffling and fingers snapping," organizers said.

The concert will be preceded by a free swing dance lesson at 4:30 p.m. led by professional swing dancer Marshall Watson and his dance partner Chelsea Beach.

The Lobos Truck, rated LA’s #1 Food Truck, will offer fresh American comfort food with a twist, Tacos del Valle will serve authentic tacos and other Mexican entrees and Waffles de Liege will serve waffles with ice creams and toppings.

The series continues August 13 with a performance by the contemporary jazz quartet The Yuko Mabuchi Group, which showcases a "variety of influences, from smooth and Latin jazz to international music.

At 6 p.m., the SaMoHi Jazz Combo, comprised of advanced jazz students from the larger SaMoHi Jazz Band program, will perform in the series' first intermission concert.

Dogtown Dogs will serve a sophisticated variation on the traditional American hot dog; Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race winner, The Middle Feast, will serve flavors of the Mediterranean to Southern California, and Ridges Churro Bar will offer churro/soft serve concoctions and after-dinner coffee.

Jessica Fichot, French chanteuse and accordionist, will take the stage August 20 to "take the audience on a twisting journey out of the French chanson tradition and into the lands of gypsy jazz, 1940s Chinese swing and international folk," concert organizers said.

The Lobos Truck,Tacos del Valle and Ridges Churro Bar will return to offer food for purchase.

The concert series concludes August 27 with a performance by The Susie Hansen Latin Band, whose "raucously fun and upbeat salsa and Latin jazz compositions" promise to "bring the audience to their feet," organizers said.

A free salsa dance lesson will be offered at 4:30pm with Laura Canellias.

Dogtown Dogs, The Middle Feast and Waffles de Liege will return with their food offerings.

The park -- which includes a children’s playground, restrooms and accessible parking -- is an eight-minute walk from the 26th Street/Bergamot Expo Line Station and served by the Big Blue Bus Route 5 on Olympic Boulevard.

The Gandara Park lot offers free parking as well free bike valet starting at 4 p.m. Free parking also is available after 3:30 p.m. in the nearby Agensys parking lot at 1800 Stewart Street.

The Jazz on the Lawn concert series is presented by the City of Santa Monica with in-kind support provided by Agensys, Inc.
