September 16, 2011 -- There's plenty to do in the next few days, whether you love food, kids, a stroll in the park, or even redistricting.

The city's Farmers Markets are celebrating their 30th birthday this weekend with the Good Food Festival and Street Fair.

Food trucks, “Chefs at Play” demonstrations by local celebrity chiefs like Evan Kleiman, Susan Feniger, Mary Sue Milliken and Sang Yoon, and thought provoking panel discussions are just some of the features at this celebration of health and good eating.

Admission is just $10, which includes a one-day pass, admission to workshops, food sampling and activities for the entire family.

Santa Monica High School is the festival's host from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18. Click here .

Want to play? Join the Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Monica at its annual Day for Kids Carnival Celebration.

It's an nationwide party to encourage everyone to make a kid's day by spending more time with kids and encouraging them (and us older folk) to be more active.

The carnival will include games and prizes, arts and crafts, entertainment, moon bouncers and more.

The party will be held at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica at 1238 Lincoln Boulevard on Saturday, September 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Everyone is welcome, and it's free. Just R.S.V.P. to Tammy at 310-394-2582.

If you want something a little more sedate than a romp on a moon bounce, you might enjoy a guided stroll through Palisades Park, hosted by the Santa Monica Conservancy.

You'll learn how Venice founder Abbot Kinney got involved with trees, why there are cannons in the park, and who is Arcadia Bandini (hint – her statue's in the park).

It's a two-hour walk, beginning at the park's north end.

Check in at the Visitor Center in the park at 1400 Ocean Avenue on Sunday September 18. Shuttles will leave the Center at 1:30, 2, 2:30 and 3 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for Santa Monica Conservancy members, $15 for the general public and $20 on the day of tour, if available. Children 12 and under accompanied by an adult are free.

Call 310-496-3146 or email info@smconservancy.org for more information.

Finally, if you'd rather attend something a bit more serious, you can get the inside scoop on the new election laws and district boundaries and how they'll make next November's elections stranger than you can even imagine.

On Monday, September 19, the League of Women Voters of Santa Monica is hosting a panel discussion on Redistricting, titled New Lines for a New Decade: What Redistricting Means for our Communities.

A judge, one of the commissioners who drew the new district boundaries, a political scientist and the Past President of the League of Women Voters of California have been invited to explain it all to you.

The discussion will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 in the Santa Monica Main Library at 601 Santa Monica Boulevard in the 2nd floor Multipurpose Room.
