Police Seek Hit-and-Run Driver

By Lookout Staff

January 20 – Police are looking for a motorist who critically injured a bicyclist shortly after midnight Friday then fled the scene.

The felony hit-and-run traffic collision took place at 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of 20th Street at Arizona Avenue in Santa Monica.

The victim -- a 33-year-old male bicyclist -- was riding southbound on 20th Street when an unknown vehicle struck him, police said.

“After striking the cyclist, the vehicle ran over the bicycle and the rider’s body and then left the scene without rendering any assistance or notifying police,” said Sgt. Renaldi Thurston.

As of Monday afternoon, police did not have a description of the vehicle.

The vehicle could have scratches or dents on its front end and possibly a cracked windshield, Thurston said.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Chris Dawson at 310.458.8954 or Sergeant Horn at 310.458.8950 or the on duty Watch Commander (24 hours) at 310.458.8427.
