MLK Day Celebrations in Santa Monica

 

Two events will be held in Santa Monica to celebrate Martin Luther King Day on Monday, both of them are free and both will begin at 9 a.m.

Place:
Santa Monica College, 16th Street and Pico Boulevard
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Price: Free
One of Southern California’s largest and most diverse celebrations of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., honoring his memory and his work toward nonviolence. The multiethnic interfaith program includes inspirational readings, music, and presentations of scholarships. Immediately following the program, a Community Involvement Fair (held nearby, at 606 Wilshire Boulevard.) offers refreshments and informational displays by a variety of community organizations. The keynote speaker at the 24th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration will be Dolores Huerta, co-founder with Cesar Chavez of the United Farm Workers. Sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Westside Coalition, the multiethnic interfaith program -- whose theme is “Be the Change You Want to See in the World.”-- also features inspirational readings, a performance by the Angel City Chorale and more. The event will be followed by Community involvement Fair from 11 a.m. to noon at 606 Wilshire Boulevard.
