March 31 -- A man was killed early Sunday morning when his SUV hit a large tree in the median on Ocean Park Boulevard, police said.

The fatal accident took place at around 1 a.m. Sunday on the 2600 block of Ocean Park, a commercial strip in Sunset Park.

The driver, a 38-year old male, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, said Lt. Alex Padilla, the Police Department spokesman.

“At this time, it does not appear that any other vehicle was involved in the accident,” Padilla said.

Investigators from the Santa Monica Police Department Major Accident Reconstruction Team (MART) responded and are investigating the accident.

The investigation is on going, Padilla said.
