Minor Accident Trains Spotlight on Santa Monica

June 21 -- A minor traffic accident in Santa Monica Sunday evening caused a major commotion covered by news outlets round the world.

Britney Spears’ mother, with her famous daughter in tow, was leaving the parking lot of a local pet shop when her car allegedly inched through a mob of photographers and reporters surrounding the vehicle, according to sources.

One of the photographers said he was hit by the vehicle, sources said.

“A pedestrian complained of pain in the foot and was treated at the scene and released,” said Lt. Frank Fabrega, the police department spokesman. “An investigation is continuing into the exact cause of the accident.”

The police department was inundated with some 30 calls from media outlets as far away as London, including a slew of entertainment news programs and publications such as People, Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood, Fabrega said.
